I purchased a JD4100 this summer and sold the JD318. Unfortunately the 4100 will not mow under the trees because it is too tall. I need a mower to trim under the trees and in tight places. The 318 used to work just fine and I refuse to use a push mower. I am looking at a used JD160. Does anyone have info on the 160 (h.p., deck, drivetrain, years of manufacture, etc..) and what the cost of one should be in average condition??

All i can tell you about the JD 160 is information about my own. My 160 is an '87, it has a 12hp kawasaki full pressure engine, 5 speed gear transmission 38" deck & dual bagger. It is short enough to trim around all of my trees and other obstacles with ease. Prices for used 160's range from $1000 to $1500, with most machines being right about $1250 in good shape (that's about what mine's worth). There are some used ones at either www.4turf.com or www.jdlawns.com (i can't remember right now). Hope this helps.Ben ....

Thanks for the info Ben. I finally contacted the guy and they want $900. I'm going to look at it now. I wish it was a 165. I'm going to bookmark those sites you sent me. They were very helpful. ....
